Basic Coaching For The Golfing Beginner
By Noel Malcombe

Golf continues to be one of the most popular sports in the world and it seems that almost everyone you know plays the game. But what do you do if you're a beginner and your golf lessons aren't yet paying off? The thing that beginner golfers need to remember is that golf is a game of patience and practice that is based on technique.

The more you practice, the sooner you'll master the technique required in golf. One of the most important ones is your swing. If you don't learn to swing properly, you probably won't fare very well with the other skills you need for a great golf game.

The first step in learning your swing is getting the grip down to a science. Ask your instructor to show you how to place your hands in the right gripping position. If you don't do this correctly you won't be set up well to hit the ball. If you pay attention to other golfers, you will notice that everyone moves a bit differently through the swing. The grip is the part that stays uniform.

It's not only the way you grip and swing your golf club that will have an impact on your game it's also about your golf stance. You'll eventually have a different stance for all the golf clubs that you have in your golf bag but to start out you should concentrate on mastering your stance while using a driver.

While you practice with your driver, be sure to make sure that your stance is as wide as your shoulders. If you're trying to make a drive that's 60 yards or less, your stance will be a bit narrower. When you get ready to swing have the target and your aim lined up properly. As you continue your practicing and some time goes by, you will learn how to use your stance and your swing in the most efficient ways.

Having perfected the swing with the driver, as you move down the list of clubs, the position of the ball is also moved back slightly. When you are using a driver, the requirement is to hit the ball into an upward motion rather than a lower motion.

Don't forget your posture! It's important that you have a good golf posture developed so that you have a good foundation for your stance. If your posture is off and you're not distributing your weight correctly you'll find that you always have a weak swing. You want to give yourself as much advantage as you can when you're a beginner so that you don't become discouraged and put away your clubs for good.

Learn by feel how to properly distribute your weight. That's one of the key ingredients for learning a good game. When you make your swing the correct way your body will be moving away from your hind foot in a back motion. At the same time your front foot will take the weight of your forward motion.

Each club needs a different pattern and time for the weight shift to take place. This is mastered with practice and time.

Playing golf well takes a long time and never-ending practice. Take a long time and learn to do one technique at a time rather than trying everything at once. Don't be afraid to talk with other players that you'd like to emulate.
