A Necessary Investment: Home Security Cameras
By Shane Nicholson

What is the most valuable of all your material possessions? For many people it is their home. And homes don't come cheap. You will spend tens of thousands of dollars - perhaps more - in buying your home. But, have you taken the time to protect your home with a good-quality security camera?

If you want to, you can purchase a video surveillance security system - which will allow you to monitor the output from each camera separately on a video display monitor. Often found in larger homes, video surveillance security systems allow you to completely monitor every area on your property!

Another great option is a wireless outdoor or indoor security camera system. With a wireless system you will not have the additional expense (and ugliness) of cables. The cameras and other system components operate (communicate with each other) wirelessly. As mentioned, you can get these wireless security cameras for either indoor or outdoor monitoring.

Still another option is the more high-tech infrared security camera. Unlike many animals, humans cannot see in the infrared range - but special purpose cameras have been designed to capture images using light of this type.

This means that infrared security cameras can be used where there is no other forms of light - in other words, when (to our eyes) a room is in total darkness! Now you can monitor a dark room (perhaps a basement or attic) or hallway effectively.

But, what if money is limited? Are there cheap home security cameras available - models that are inexpensive and yet are of decent quality? Yes, there are - in fact you can find some models for under $30 dollars. But if you really want to save some money, you can purchase dummy (fake) security cameras. They look and function just like the real ones - except that they do not capture images, or record events. They are just a public deterrent when they are prominently displayed.

A final option: Did you know that it is now possible to connect your home security cameras up with your personal computer? Yep, you can keep an eye on your homestead, even when you are on the road travelling - or (my favorite) while on vacation. That way you can monitor your home for signs of trouble, or even just to keep an eye on the whereabouts of your pets.

Yes, as a homeowner you have a lot of options when it comes to purchasing security cameras. So, the question remains: who WOULDN'T protect their valuable home with a good security camera?
