Asthma—a Common But Serious Problem
By Jason Uvios

Asthma is a respiratory disease that occurs due to the tightening of the lungs. It can develop at any age and is common amongst children. attack occurs when your lungs do not get sufficient air to breathe. could be hereditary meaning that if a parent has then chances is that the child may develop as well.

Symptoms of Asthma
Difficulty in breathing, coughing, pain, and/or tightness in the chest and wheezing are common symptoms. Children may also suffer from hay fever.

Reason for Attack
The two reasons that can provoke an attack are:
-Triggers—They cause tightening of airways and result in bronchoconstriction. triggers include mould, smoke, dust, air pollution, respiratory infections, and foods. If airway inflammation were already present then it would react quickly to triggers and can cause attack. Triggers symptoms do not last for long and are reversible.
-Causes or Inducers—They cause airway inflammation and hyper responsiveness. The inducer symptoms last for long and are not easily reversible in comparison to trigger symptoms. Allergens and respiratory viral infections are common inducers.
-Allergens: the common cause of inflammation is inhaled allergens that include pollen, moulds, and animal secretion and dust mites. When exposed to allergens may cause immediate symptoms like coughing as the airways tighten due to sensitivity. You can get relief from these symptoms through bronchodilator. However, late response occurs due to inflammation, which is difficult for the physician to identify asthma’s actual cause.
-Respiratory infections: this is the common cause of asthma. In some cases, influenza vaccine is helpful in preventing respiratory problems that tend to occur due to influenza.

How to Prevent Attack
Prevention is better than cure. You should consult your doctor if you have doubt that you are suffering from asthma. Try to develop a plan to prevent with the help of your doctor. The action plan may help in controlling asthma. Try to avoid things that may trigger an attack.

Medications
You should take medications as recommended by physician on regular basis. You can get relief from attack by using inhalers or over the counter decongestant sprays. Yoga or regular exercise also gives relief from asthma.

Proper intake of medications and practicing action plan helps to control your attack. is serious so you need to control it with proper medication.
